Novynetter Birth Control

Novynette is supplied in tablet containing 0.02 mg ethinylestradiol and 0.15 mg desogestrel used for the prevention of pregnancy and the reduction of symptoms of pre-menstrual syndrome.

Novynette is a product of Gedeon Richter and is also marketed under the name Novinet®.

Novynette Action Mechanism

Novynette is a monophasic hormonal contraceptive pill that effectively works in preventing pregnancy by interfering the woman’s ovulation through suppression of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and release of luteinizing hormone (LH).

Novynette further inhibits the implantation of sperm in the uterus through the thickening of the cervical mucus thereby making fertilization a difficult process.

Indications and Mode of Administration

Novynette is indicated for the prevention of pregnancy to women who are in the child bearing age. This hormonal contraceptive medicine is also prescribed for the remedy of menstrual disorder such as dysmenorrhea and reduction in the occurrence of pre-menstrual syndrome such as mood changes, irritability, depression, breast tenderness or headache.

Novynette is an oral contraceptive medication taken once a day for 21 days beginning at the onset (first day) of menstrual period. The 21 days pill is then followed by a 7-day break, until which a new course of 21 tablets is then started on the 8th day following the 7-day break. Your doctor will instruct a specific instruction in cases of dosage after delivery or abortion. To ensure effective contraception with Novynette, follow the specific instruction of your health care practitioner.

Novynette Contraindications and Cautions

Novynette is contraindicated to women who have hypersensitive reactions to any of its ingredients or those who have any of the following medical conditions:

  • vaginal bleeding
  • kidney disorder
  • pancreatitis
  • pre-thrombosis symptoms
  • severe liver condition
  • hormone dependent tumors
  • venous or arterial thrombosis

Novynette is not appropriate for use on women who are pregnant or presently breastfeeding, or those who had recent surgical operation on extremities, or had been under long-term immobilization due to sickness.

Novynette must be used with caution on patients who have elevated cholesterol level, sugar level and high blood pressure. Discuss with your health care provider if you have certain health condition for him to assess whether the pill is appropriate for you.

Novynette Side Effects

Novynette hormonal contraceptive tablet is well tolerated by the body. If there are adverse reactions associated on its use, it is rather a remote possibility and affects a small percentage of patients. The following are the possible side effects of Novynette:

  • Visual problem (i.e. blurry vision)
  • Change in sexual interest
  • Weight gain
  • Vaginal discharge
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting

These side effects is a general description of the possible adverse reaction of the medicament, however, it does not mean that it can occur to all women using the pill. Novynette can affect the patients in different ways because of the varied tolerance level affecting each person.

Novynette Interactions:

Novynette may have potential interaction with certain preparations or substance. Inform your health care provider what other medications you are under medication, for him to evaluate its compatibility with Novynette.

The following medicaments may interact with Novynette:

  • Antibiotics ( i.e. ampicillin, penicillin)
  • Anti-coagulants
  • Anti-diabetic remedies including insullin
  • Anti- inflammatory medications (non-steroids)
  • Epilepsy medicines
  • Hepatotoxic medicines
  • Tranquilizer medications

Interesting Facts

Novynette is a monophasic pill that has constant amount of estrogen and progestin component contained in one pill throughout the entire 21 days cycle. Compared to other types of pill, monophasic pill is less likely to cause adverse side effects because of its constant amount of hormone level.

Novymetter like other hormonal contraceptives should be taken in the first day of your mentrual cycle.

Hi, you can try other hormonal birth control pills like Diane-35, Yasmin, Jeaninine and others. We reccomend you to consult a doctor prior to taking any birth control medicaion

if Novynette causes side effects, you need to choose another hormonal contraceptive with the lower dose of hormones
